General Guide for Mixing Drinks

1oz Concentrated Tea + 7oz of Water = 8oz of Piper & Leaf Tea

1oz Concentrated Tea + 1oz Simple Syrup + 6oz of Water = 8oz of “Southern Style Sweet” Piper & Leaf Tea

Hot & Iced Tea Recipes

Each of the recipes below is exactly how we make them at Piper & Leaf shops, markets, and events!

These recipes match our default of “Southern style sweet” (because that’s just how we do it in Alabama), but it’s easy to adjust! Simply reduce the amount of Simple Syrup to your liking and make your tea unsweet, half sweet, or anywhere in between!

Pouring concentrated tea from a measuring cup into a mug

Hot Mug of Tea (12oz)

  • 1.5 oz Concentrated Tea in a mug
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 9.5 oz of hot water
  • Stir it all together and enjoy!

Want a deliciously rich treat? Try adding 1oz of cream into your hot tea and top it with a swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon – yum!

Iced Pint Jar of Tea (16oz)

  • Fill the jar all the way to the neck with ice!*
  • 1 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 8 oz of cold water (i.e. fill the jar to the neck with water)
  • Stir, shake, or swirl the jar until all the sugar and Concentrated Tea are mixed. Enjoy!

*To make your tea with less ice, add some extra Concentrated Tea & Simple Syrup! Less ice = more water, so this will ensure a strong tea. Remember, the best ratio is 1oz of Concentrated Tea for every 7oz of water!

Iced Quart Jar of Tea (32oz)

To make a quart of tea, simply double the amount of each ingredient in the Pint Jar recipe!

Making a Pitcher of Tea

These recipes will be different based on how sweet you like your tea! Using less sweetener means you will add more Concentrated Tea. Sweetener tends to strengthen the flavor of tea, so in larger volumes it is better to make an unsweetened pitcher of tea a little bit stronger than you would a sweetened pitcher!

Be sure to check the size of your tea pitcher and adjust your recipe as needed to match the volume! These recipes each make a half-gallon of tea:  1/2 Gallon = 2 quarts = 64oz

Sweetened Half-Gallon Pitcher

  • 7 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 4-5 oz Simple Syrup
  • Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water
  • Stir well until it’s evenly mixed!

Lightly Sweetened Half-Gallon Pitcher

  • 8 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 2-3 oz Simple Syrup
  • Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water
  • Stir well until it’s evenly mixed!

Unsweetened Half-Gallon Pitcher

  • 9 oz Concentrated Tea
  • Fill the rest of the pitcher with cold water
  • Stir well until it’s evenly mixed!

If your family has opposing tea preferences, leave Simple Syrup next to your unsweetened pitcher so each person can sweeten their cup individually!

Now everyone gets tea exactly the way they like it. Just make sure they don’t forget to stir!

Store your pitcher of tea in the fridge and enjoy a ready-to-drink glass of delicious tea whenever you’d like! If stored properly, your pitcher of tea should be good for 5-7 days.

Milk Tea (or Frother)

A woman and her daughter share a pint jar filled with a milk frother and topped with whipped cream

Want to make your drink into an extra-special treat? Add a swirl of whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon to the top of your frother! Delicious!

Iced Frother Pint Jar (16oz)

  • 1.5 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 5 oz milk or almond milk. For an extra-rich drink, instead try using 2oz of half & half + 3oz of water
  • Stir until mixed. If you have the right equipment, make a frother! Froth this mixture until it has a nice, fluffy layer of foam. Then pour it back into your mug
  • Add ice to fill jar. Enjoy!

Hot Frother Mug (12oz)

  • 2 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 1.5 oz Simple Syrup
  • 7 oz warm milk or almond milk. For an extra-rich drink, instead try 3oz of half & half + 4oz of water!
  • Stir until mixed. If you have the right equipment, make a frother! Froth this mixture until it has a nice, fluffy layer of foam. Then pour it back into your mug and enjoy!

Kopi Cham or Lat-tea (coffee + tea)

Iced Lat-tea Pint Jar (16oz)

  • 1 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz creamer. Half & half is our preference, but try it out with any milk, cream, or non-dairy alternative!
  • 6-8 oz of iced or cold-brew coffee
  • Stir until thoroughly mixed
  • Add ice to fill jar. Enjoy!

Hot Lat-tea Mug (12oz)

  • 1 oz Concentrated Tea
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 oz creamer. Half & half is our preference, but try it out with any milk, cream, or non-dairy alternative!
  • 9 oz hot coffee to fill the mug
  • Stir and enjoy!

Because a Kopi Cham is a full cup of coffee and a full serving of tea concentrate, this drink is going to be quite caffeinated! If you’re looking for extra energy, use one of our black tea blends. If you want to cut back on caffeine, try using a tisane blend instead! (and maybe a decaf coffee)
