Stories Behind the Blend: Sassyfras Strawberry
Share
Inspired by sassafras and sarsaparilla, we created our favorite, time-honored, spunky, root-imbued brew: Sassyfras Strawberry. We added an immaculate sencha tea, and filled it with delicious dried beets and strawberries to make a tantalizingly sweet and balanced homage to this symbol of independence, ingenuity, and family.
This blend was created and served at our very first farmers market in 2013. It has had a couple variations over the years, the primary one being the switch from sassafras root to sarsaparilla root several years ago. There are some potential risk to consuming large amounts of sassafras root, and while the blend contained a tiny percentage of the root, we decided to err on the side of caution and replace it with sarsaparilla.
Beets and Health
Now, we know you may read the ingredients and think, "Beets?" But let us tell you, these wonderful root vegetables not only give our ever loved Sassyfras Strawberry its beautiful pink hue, but beets are packed with health benefits!
Beets are most known for their abundance of nutrients! Beets are particularly rich in folate, a vitamin that plays a key role in growth, development, and heart health. They also contain a good amount of manganese, which is involved in bone formation, nutrient metabolism, brain function, and more. Plus, they’re high in copper, an important mineral required for energy production and the synthesis of certain neurotransmitters.
Not only that, but eating beets may enhance athletic performance by improving oxygen use and endurance! Read more about beets and their awesome health benefits!
