Westward Ho! Glacier's Grand Finale (Days 31-32)
Share
Our last couple of days in Glacier were the perfect mix of high adventure and sweet, simple moments!
Day 31: We almost had a trip-ending disaster when we lost a crucial hitch piece! But God is good—the campground owner's grandfather had the exact part we needed and saved the day! Crisis averted, we tackled the just-opened Going-to-the-Sun Road. The drive was breathtakingly beautiful and precarious, with waterfalls from snowmelt dumping right onto the road!
Our destination was the "infamous snow hike" at Logan Pass. The kids, armed with whittled walking sticks, had the time of their lives sloshing and sliding up the mountain. We had to turn back when we heard about a literal hands-and-knees ice crawl on a cliff edge ahead—not ideal with babies on our backs!—but sliding down the mountain was a highlight in itself. We ended the day sipping hot Piper & Leaf chai at the pass, watching bighorn sheep as the sun set perfectly before us. Pure magic.

Day 32: After all that excitement, a slow day was in order, dictated by a classic grumpy toddler mood from Lorna.
Plans for biking and shopping were quickly traded for an afternoon of boating and swimming on the beautiful Lake McDonald. The water was still icy, but the kids couldn't resist. We even met some new friends from Georgia! It was the perfect, peaceful end to our time here.

From heart-pounding drives to quiet lakeside chats, Glacier, you were incredible.
