Westward Ho! Homestead Dreams at Greycliff Mill! (Day 36)
Share
Woke up this morning to the most amazing alarm clock: a herd of cows being driven right past our camper on their way to the milking barn! The farmer kindly invited us to watch, so the kids started their day in the best way possible.
This stop at Greycliff Mill was an early inspiration for our whole trip, and it was even more magical in person. Featured on the Magnolia Network, this heritage craft village is a dream. We explored the stunning refurbished timber-frame buildings, including an old grain mill where we enjoyed fresh baked goods and a cheese cave where we saw (and bought!) cheese being made.

The best part was the hands-on experience. Charlene got to use a real loom to make a tea towel—a perfect, handcrafted treasure!—and many of the other kids tried stamped leather crafts. It’s so inspiring to see these heritage skills being preserved with such love and care.
We ended the day with the kids playing on a timber-frame swing set under massive old willow trees from the original homestead. A truly special day connecting with a simpler way of life.
