Westward Ho! A Truly Wild Day in the Tetons! (Day 20)
Share
What a day! This one might take the cake for the fullest, most fun day of the trip so far. We started with a hike from String Lake, and as we were getting our gear, a ranger stopped to chat… right before yelling, "BEAR!" A huge cinnamon black bear lumbered right through the parking lot! The rangers sprang into action, and after the excitement, we began our hike.

The 5-mile trek around Jenny Lake to Hidden Falls was stunning. The kids were troopers, and the views were incredible! The trail was quiet except for the crowded half-mile near the Jenny Lake boat dock. On our way back, we spotted a MOOSE playing and splashing in the water below us—such a treat to watch! We also saw a marmot and an otter. So much beautiful wildlife!

After the hike, we decided to redeem yesterday’s chilly kayaking trip. It was warmer, we were wiser, and this time, it was perfect. We successfully paddled up String Lake, portaged like pros (shielding Lorna from the mosquitos!), and floated onto the serene, gorgeous waters of Leigh Lake. It was so peaceful we even filmed some Piper and Leaf videos out on the water! From bear encounters to peaceful paddles, this day was a whirlwind of everything we came out here to experience. Absolutely amazing and so, so blessed.
