Day 7 of Advent

Night Tree

We picked this delightful tale up at a local Nature Museum years ago, and it quickly became one of our son’s favorite books year-round. He always spends extra time gazing at the page where all the animals are feasting on the edible ornaments on their tree. It is fun to look for all the animals in the pictures and imagine going out into the woods with treats for the woodland critters like this family did, singing carols in the woods, and of course, sipping some nice hot cups of tea.

Activity for Today

Edible Ornaments

Make edible ornaments to decorate your own Night Tree. One idea is to roll a pinecone in peanut butter or Crisco, and then in bird seed. You could also hang fresh fruit like apples by tying string to the stem.

  • Fun Fact!

Our son Mark Revere, who’s now 6, absolutely loves The Night Tree! We were thrilled to discover that it was illustrated by the same artist who brought Paul Revere’s Ride to life—the very man after whom we named him!

  • Night Tree

On the night before Christmas we always go to find our tree.
We bundle up so we’re warm. Nina is already wearing her boots that are
too big for her. She has been wearing them all day.
Dad sets our box in the back of the truck with the rest of his stuff and the
four of us squish into the front seat.
We drive through the bright Christmas streets to where the dark and quiet
    begin.

Someone Else's Thoughts

"If you love pumpkin, this is the tea for you. Smooth, flavorful, balanced, and satisfying. Just the right amount of caffeine, enough to provide a little energy lift, but no jolt. Would love for this to be available all year."
